PD resources currently available at:
Professional Development Resources are intended to support opportunities to "continue the conversation" with respect to various selected learning opportunities. Most often PD resources are archived webinars with conversation guides or professional development/workshop resources intended for leaders to facilitate district/job embedded learning opportunities. PD resources can include facilitator guides, participant handouts, and/or facilitator resources and are intended to be adaptable to your context. All materials on the site are aligned with the Alberta programs of studies, were developed by Alberta educators and are intended to support implementation.
Re-thinking High School Webinars
On January 18th, 2012 Educators across the province joined in dialogue about High School Completion and strategies and approaches aimed at transforming the High School Experience for both students and teachers. These caches webinars will allow you to engage in these conversations through viewing the webinar and working through the conversation guides.
ReThinking High School - Setting the Context Opening SessionAlberta Education High School Completion Team introduction to “next practice” thinking across the province schools who have implemented strategies, approaches and conversations aimed at transforming the high-school experience for their students and teachers.
Watch Introduction:
Formative assessment is proven to be one of the most effective strategies to improve student learning. This conversation will explore ways that teachers are currently using assessment for learning strategies in their daily practice.
Creating an atmosphere of active inquiry and deep engagement is the dream of any teacher. This conversation will focus on the use of guided inquiry embedded in a collaborative teaching setting in a high school classroom.
Let’s re-imagine what school could look like for our FNMI students. Let’s think about the familial curriculum and cultural curriculum. Making the shift into what this could look like takes innovation, passion and creativity with a commitment to “doing” something new. This conversation will highlight one school’s shift - a 12 month pilot process called “Pow wow” school.
Rather than looking at the end of a semester as the termination of learning in specific coursework is it possible to extend opportunities for students to continue with their pursuit of mastery? This conversation will give participants a glimpse into one school’s attempt to answer this question.
Teacher isolation is one of the critical barriers to forming a community of learners – especially at the high school level. This conversation will explore how one school has developed collaborative approaches to eliminate teacher isolation.
Research shows that the development of adolescent literacy is a key success in high school. This conversation will focus on one high school’s approach to dealing with literacy across the curriculum.
Learning to gather and respond to student voice requires new ways of thinking and doing. Through participation in the Tell Them From Me survey, Battle River School Division schools are beginning to collaborate and innovate in response to real-time, powerful information. This conversation will explore the obstacles, investments and best hopes of truly engaging students in the school improvement journey.
Research is clear that students are more deeply engaged in schools that focus their work on developing meaningful relationships. This conversation will explore the use of Teacher Advisory as a strategy to enhance relationships in high school.
When students find relevance in their learning activities research suggests that engagement levels increase. This conversation will explore the journey of one school in taking an interdisciplinary approach to delivering the high school program.
When you have a positive relationship at school, you want to come to school, and you tend to finish school. That’s where the Alberta Mentoring Partnership Strategy comes in. This conversation will explore the use of mentors as a strategy to enhance relationships in high school, how to create mentoring programs in your school and the free resources on the Alberta Mentoring Partnership website.
Cached Webinars
The Alberta Regional PD Consortium (ARPDC) is pleased to offer anytime, anyplace, any pace professional development through viewing cached webinars. A webinar is a web-based presentation or workshop that is transmitted over the internet. After a webinar is presented live it will be recorded and archived for access by all.
